FAQs

Before my visit

What is pottery painting?

All the pottery pieces in our studio are bisque, which means they are ready to be painted but still need glazing and a final firing in the kiln to be finished.

This is where the fun begins! Choose any piece you like from our collection and paint it however you wish.

When you’re done, simply leave it in our studio. We will glaze it and fire it in the kiln to complete the process.

Once it’s ready, we’ll pack it and notify you so you can come and pick up your finished piece.

Do I need to have any prior experience?

No required experience is needed.

How much does it cost to paint?

The price of each session will vary according to the piece you choose.
We have 7 main categories, each with several pieces available:
– Sand (19,95€)
– Luna (26,95€)
– Blossom (29,95€)
– Latte (36,95€)
– Pistachio (39,95€)
– Breeze (46,95€)
– Serene (49,95€)

The price is per piece. You can choose as many pieces as you like within the 2h30 session.
Each piece already includes everything: use of paints, brushes, materials, glazing, and kiln firing.

We reserve the right to discontinue and sell out items, just as we update our selection with news.

If you would like to learn more about our prices and explore our selection, you are always welcome to visit us in our creative studio.

What is included in the price of the piece?

The cost of the selected piece covers the pottery item itself, paint, and the use of painting tools, along with glazing and firing services. There are no additional fees or extra charges within the 2h30m of the pottery painting session.

Can I see a selection of your pottery?

Yes, you are always more than welcome to stop by our studio and take a look and see our selection on the pottery shelves.
You can also see a sample of our pottery either by looking HERE or by viewing our guests’ beautiful finished pottery on our Instagram or on our Facebook.

Are paints and glazes toxic?

No, all of our materials are non-toxic, lead-free and suitable for use in the food industry. Our paints are water-soluble, meaning they can be washed off skin and clothes.

Can I reserve a specific pottery piece in advance?

No. We do not reserve individual pottery pieces for customers. Pieces are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the studio.

How do I book a seat?

To ensure a seat is reserved for you, we highly recommend booking in advance. We offer 3 designated time slots.

You can easily secure a seat through our online booking system available HERE or by calling our studio. If you want to be spontaneous, walk-ins are more than welcome; no reservation is necessary. Feel free to drop by, but availability will depend on the day’s circumstances.

Your booking is officially confirmed only after you receive a confirmation email (check your spam folder!). If we are unable to contact the person who made the reservation by email or phone, it will be cancelled without prior notice.
All reservations require a real name and valid contact details; false, incorrect, or unverifiable information will result in automatic cancellation.

Can I change or cancel my booking?

Yes, you can change or cancel your reservation through the confirmation email, but we ask you to do so at least 24 hours in advance to give us a chance to fill the vacancy.

Can I bring food and drinks?

Outside food & drinks:
Open Studio: No 🚫
Private Events: Yes ✅
We keep food out during open studio sessions to protect your pottery and keep the studio smelling fresh.

If you want a drink, you can always check our drinks menu HERE – almost all drinks come in cans to avoid spills on the pottery.

For private events, you’ll have the whole space to yourself, so feel free to bring your own snacks & drinks!

Can I come alone?

Yes, you are always welcome, whether in your own lovely company or with friends, family.

We have many guests who enjoy de-stressing alone with the paint brush and pottery. And you are also welcome to sit with headphones on and enjoy the tranquility of your own music or an audiobook.

How old does my child have to be to participate?

Our studio welcomes everyone! Children aged 12 and under may be accompanied by an adult; otherwise, a guardian or parent must give permission for the child to be alone. A maximum of 1 adult may share and paint the same piece with 1 child.

What are the opening hours?

We are open from Wednesday to Sunday:
10h-12h30 | 14h-19h30
(Closed for lunch: 13h-14h)

For special opening times in connection with holidays and public holidays, we will let you know on our website and social media in advance.

Until what time do you accept customers?

For pottery painting, the last customer we can accommodate is at 18h.

Can I bring my own pottery to paint?

No. You can only paint pieces available at our studio.

During my visit

How long do I have to paint?

When you reserve a seat, you have up to 2h30m to complete your pottery painting. If seats are available, you have the option to extend your stay for an additional hour at a cost of 8€. Please check with an employee first to let us know you will be staying.

Can I arrive before my booking starts?

We really want to give you the best experience, and therefore we want you to arrive at your agreed time first. We run around and prepare the studio and the tables between each time slot so that it is nice and clean for your visit. So if you arrive before your booking starts, you may risk waiting outside.

What if I arrive late?

If you are more than an hour late, your appointment will be automatically canceled.
If you arrive late, we cannot guarantee that the 2h30m will be enough for you to finish your pottery painting activity. To enjoy your time without feeling rushed, please ensure you arrive on time.

Do I have to pay if I don't want to paint?

Yes, we have a seat fee of 10€ per session. If you visit us with a friend or family member, in connection with an event, or if you do not want to paint, then this is the price you have to pay.

Can I get my pottery home the same day?

Unfortunately, no. Before the pottery can be used, it must be glazed and fired. But we will send you a notification as soon as it is ready to come home with you.

Can you help me get started if I get stuck?

For sure. We are always ready to help you. Before you start painting, you will receive instructions on how it all works and we will be happy to help you with the various painting techniques and any questions. We also provide tips and tricks on our Instagram and Pinterest.

How many pottery pieces can I paint?

Each participant must choose at least 1 piece, manage his/her own time (max. 2h30), and can paint several pieces. At the end, the total price is the sum of all selected pieces. You manage your own time within a 2h30m pottery painting session.

Can I bring decorations?

Unfortunately, bringing external decorations into the studio is not allowed, both for open studio sessions and private events. This helps maintain a neutral and balanced environment.

What if I don't finish on time?

After your pottery painting session, you have up to 15 opening days to return and continue working on your piece.
To continue painting, you must book a seat in advance through our website. Each additional hour is charged at 8€ per participant.
If the piece is not finished within 15 opening days of your original painting session, we will glaze and fire it as it is. This ensures we can manage studio space fairly and keep all pieces moving.

After my visit

Do the colors stay the same after painting?

No. After firing, the colors achieve a vivid intensity and brightness, exhibiting a slight variation compared to the available samples we display in our studio.

When can I collect my finished pottery?

Once you finish painting your piece, it must be left at our studio for glazing and firing. The completed pieces are available for pickup within 15 opening days after your session, excluding studio closure days.

You need to collect your pieces within 15 opening days of receiving the pickup notification; otherwise, a storage fee of 5€ per week and per person will be charged. If the items are not collected within 30 days of the initial notification, they will be automatically donated without further notice.

During peak times, such as Christmas and public holidays, the notification to collect your pottery piece might be extended up to an extra 15 opening days. We strive to have your pottery ready for you as quickly as possible.

Please note that finished pottery and gift vouchers can only be picked up from Wednesday to Sunday, from 14h to 19h.

Can I put the pottery piece either in the dishwasher, oven or in the microwave?

We do not recommend placing the pieces in the microwave, oven or dishwasher. To ensure their durability, we advise hand washing. If you choose another method, it will be at your responsibility.

Can I wash the paint off my clothes?

Yes, the paint is both water-based and non-toxic and can easily come off in the wash or with a wet cloth. This also means that you can safely make impressions with your child or let them play with the paint.

What do you do with my pottery when it is finished painting?

When you have finished painting your pottery, it must be glazed and fired. In this way, your pottery will have a shiny and smooth surface, and the colors you have chosen will really come into their own. The pottery must be fired in special kilns. You can therefore not get your pottery home the same day you paint them.

My finished product has defects. What should I do?

This activity involves decorating your own pottery by hand, after which our team will glaze and fire your pottery piece. While this process may sometimes result in small imperfections, we make every effort to minimize them and ensure the highest quality for each creation.

What happens if the pottery gets damaged?

Sometimes pottery pieces can get damaged in the kiln. We do our absolute best to make sure this doesn’t happen, but sometimes it does. In the event of product damage occurring during glazing, firing, or through handling by the Klæy Kreative team, the customer is entitled to request a similar pottery piece and painting session, provided it falls within the same price range as the damaged item.

Can you send my piece by post?

If you’re in mainland Portugal: All orders must be picked up in person at our studio within 15 days. If you can’t pick it up yourself, a friend, family member, or someone else can pick it up for you! They just need to provide the name and the date of your pottery painting session when you filled out the form.

Shipment is only available for people living abroad and within the European Union (Madeira and Azores islands are also included). The shipment includes 1 to 4 items and costs 60€ with a tracking number (only for the same address).

What if I don’t finish my pottery piece in one session?

You can leave your piece in the studio and return within 15 days to continue working on it. Extra time must be booked on our website (8€ per hour and per person). After 15 days from your original session, we will glaze and fire the piece as it is. This ensures we can manage studio space fairly and keep all pieces moving.
